Objectives:

1)    Explore the interplay between transfusion, ineffective erythropoiesis and iron overload in the pathophysiology of thalassemia.
2)    Understand the methods to diagnose and monitor end-organ damage from iron overload.
3)    Describe current treatments available for patients with iron overload.
4)    Discuss the potential use of targeted therapy in ameliorating iron overload and ineffective erythropoiesis in thalassemia.
