The British Columbia Transfusion Medicine Rounds is a monthly 1-hour educational rounds with a multidisciplinary audience bringing together pathologists, clinicians, nurses, technologists, and researchers from British Columbia and throughout Canada who have an interest in Transfusion Medicine. 

For Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, The British Columbia Transfusion Medicine Rounds is a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Learning objectives 

For this TM rounds, we have four anaesthesia residents presenting short presentations on their QI projects on the following topics:

  1. Understand the role of cell surface blood group antigens in transfusion and transplantation
  2. Precision enzyme engineering for highly selective blood type conversion to universal ‘O’ blood
  3. Application of red blood cell surface engineering towards universal blood for transfusion
  4. Organ engineering to eliminate ABO blood type barrier in transplantation
