Learning objectives

1. Understand at a high level the history of DEHP as a plasticizer in blood bags
2. Be aware of upcoming regulatory changes in the EU that will ban DEHP in medical devices and understand how this change will impact blood products in Canada. 
3. Be able to describe the results of development work done to date to support Canadian Blood Services’ transition to DEHP-free blood bag sets.
4. Have an awareness of the considerations physicians should have in mind as Canadian Blood Services, and the industry at large, shift away from DEHP.

The LearnTransfusion series is the seminar component of the Areas of Focused Competency (AFC)-Diploma Program in Transfusion Medicine. The series, organized by Canadian Blood Services, is also open to all practitioners in the field of Transfusion Medicine. Through a series of regular webinars, trainees and practitioners are exposed to various scientific, technical and clinical aspects of transfusion medicine.
