Learning Objectives:

1. To review the evidence for prophylactic platelet transfusions in patients with hematologic malignancies.
2. To discuss the potential role of tranexamic acid to reduce bleeding and the need for platelet transfusions.
3. To present an ongoing Canadian pilot study of tranexamic acid vs. platelet transfusions in patients undergoing autologous transplantation.
